NRRPT
Exam Review Program-Click here to see
the manual
MJW has developed a National Registry of Radiation Protection
Technologists (NRRPT) CBT exam review program. Unlike any other exam
preparation program in the country, the NRRPT Exam Review is a fully interactive
system that provides rapid, effective preparation for the NRRPT examination. The
program includes extensive information on each required objective, and three,
timed practice exams with feedback as well as graphics and animations to explain
subject matter and aid in comprehension of abstract concepts.
The NRRPT Exam Review features include:
- Tutorials and three separate practice examinations based on
the 25 objectives of the NRRPT Exam Review course.
- Each examination question includes comprehensive
explanations.
- The course outline lets the student move easily through the
program.
- An on-line glossary of terms and definitions which can be
accessed at any time.
- Students can start and stop the program and return to any
portion for review or testing.
- Report functions allow the administrator to evaluate
student test results.
- Electronic copies of test results may be stored on disk or
printed.
- Graphics, animation, photographs, audio narration and
extensive user interaction make this an effective and enjoyable program to
use.
The NRRPT Exam review in CD-ROM format allows students to
train at their own pace, on their own schedule and in their homes or other
convenient settings.
PRD-Principles
of Radiation Detection
PRD is an interactive Windows®
CD-ROM training program using graphics, animation and audio to capture the
attention of the trainee.
Principles of Radiation Detection describes in detail, the
design, construction and operation of all types of radiation detection devices.
Visualize the operation of a photomultiplier tube! Adjust the voltage source of
a gas filled detector and see the effects on screen! Follow electrons and holes
as they move through a semiconductor! All this and much more is just a mouse
click away with the PRD module.
Every step of the way the user is stimulated and informed by
the program. To enhance this learning experience, our virtual mentor, Dr.
Wilhelm Brainbender appears periodically to challenge and coach the user.
The PRD module is composed of four major sections:
- Gas Filled Detectors
- Scintillation Detectors
- Semiconductor Detectors
- Personnel Dosimetry
The entire system is objective based, and at the end of each
section the user is presented with a 10 question multiple choice quiz. A course
management system is included to allow tracking of student performance.

Spill Response
Trainer
The spill response trainer was designed to be useable with little or
no documentation. To use the application, simply start it and explore the lab by
clicking on various items. Dialog boxes will pop up with various options,
including a "Help" button, which provides guidance on how and why to perform
certain tasks. The Spill Response Trainer follows the familiar pneumonic for
spill response: SWIM. S: Stop the spill. W: Warn others. I: Isolate the area. M:
Minimize your exposure. The objects in the lab provide the functionality to
complete those actions.
Stop
the spill - This is accomplished by using three absorbent wipes to cover the
spill.
Warn
others - This is accomplished by yelling out "SPILL!" by using the Speak
Button. This step should be done almost immediately after the spill. Yelling
after the spill has been picked up is too late.
Isolate the
area - This can be accomplished in one of two ways: Barrier tape found in a
bench drawer can be used or the door may be locked. If the barrier is removed
before the spill is picked up, the spill is not isolated.
Minimize
exposure - This is accomplished by using good contamination controls. When
you touch the spill with your gloved or bare hand, contamination will be
transferred. Anything you touch afterward will become contaminated. Use the
pancake probe to spot check your hands periodically. Remove contaminated gloves.
Decontaminate your hands by using the sink as soon as possible. Perform a
detailed survey of the area after decontaminating the spill area.
